Portfolio And skills/mediums used

Methods and skills used to create my portfolio. MY portfolio is mainly based around illustrative design and I have also included photography and sketches/drawings. One of the main skills i am demonstrating is being able to apply design knowledge to create digital illustration work (using Adobe Illustrator) I am trying to show a general design knowledge and express my creativity and style while doing so. Some colleges have also asked for a written piece of work and i have submitted this to demonstrate my communication skills as well as my technical grammatical, spelling, and literature abilities

Resource Plan

Evaluation

My resource plan does go far to help me because it includes lots of linked information but crucially a wide range of locations available to me because, Taking a gap year and then going to university leaves me with a lot of options on places I could potentially live and work. Through this plan i wish to experience as many places, organisations and job roles I can. I know now from my plan that i can potential get a role as an intern which would mean i could benefit from a wide range of different jobs and experiences whilst developing industry relevant skills. Although my plan does focus on career opportunities after University, so because of this I will need to re visit this plan often to make sure it is suited to the current time frame and that specific jobs and website I have researched are still relevant.
I do also have a contingency plan which would include going to Univerisity to study graphic design at higher than degree level and take the educational route so I could become a tutor/teacher. This is something i have factored into my choice of course and university because i have looked into progression options after degree level and feel this would be a rewarding and enjoyable back up plan.

Personal Resource Audit

Personal Characteristics, Experience and Interests, Skills, Reverent Achievements

Evalutaion

In general I have identified where my strengths as well as weaknesses are. I think that the technical skills i have learnt and developed and one of my most desirable qualities that I have found whilst creating these documents.  I do however think I can improve a lot within this area. Such as specific skills like using indesign and other computer software I haven't used before. This is somthing i will start practising with as soon as possible because I know it would be a crucial part of my chosen career path as well as useful during my education at University. Also I have come to the conciliation that for me to expand on my experience and ultimately boost by technical ability as well as practical competence in graphic design I need to increase my relevant achievements. I will do this by working to my highest potential at College as well as using my skills i have learnt to take on projects for clients (unpaid) as well entering competitions such as http://submit2.commarts.com and http://www.graphiccompetitions.com/graphic-design/ This intern should help me improve on all of the aspects listed above as well as creating viable links into the industry. Which i hope to achieve through education and work experiences

What i need to develop
Relevent software skills- photoshop, In Design
Continue to develop my drawing skills
Improve my typographic skills to an industry standard
I will need to improve my web presence

Career Flow diagram

Evalutation

I have used what i have learnt about my own Skills, Characteristic, Achievements and Resources to create a personal and realistic plan suited to me and what I want to do. This includes my short term goal which is to finish Long Road Sixth Form which appropriate qualifications for me to be able to progress to higher level education. I have decided Plymouth University studying Graphic Design with Typography is my desired chose because some of my strongest skills are technical typography and design based. As well as this is think the course is suited to my personal learning style because it is coursework and client project based. My medium term plan is to complete the course at university whilst creating links contacts and business opportunities so I can start work as a graphic designer as soon as possible. The resources I have found and evaluated will hopefully set me up well for this. It is likely that I will search for opportunities in Plymouth during my studies. My long term goal is to hold a stable position in a large design agency. I have looked at places i would like to start a career and this includes places like '400' London and CAMSAT. It is likely that my long term plan will lead me to move out of Plymouth to London because of the job opportunities

Contingency Plan
Through assessment of my plan and the resources I have complied as well as personal help from contacts at University open days/interview days i have decided that a good and rewarding contingency plan for me to really capitalise on my skills and personal characteristics would be to pursue an academic study of graphic design. This mean I will continue to use and develop my skills throughout university whilst studying an undergraduate degree. I will then be able to progress to a Masters degree which would mean further development of my skills and also expanding my resources with connections and experience. After this I will be able to apply for  a teaching course and my long term contingency plan would to become a tutor or lecturer in graphic design. Ideally working for a University or higher education instutution
